Planar kinematics analysis of a snake-like robot

چکیده
This paper presents the kinematics of a planar multibody vehicle which is aimed at the exploration, data collection, non-destructive testing and general autonomous navigation and operations in confined environments such as pipelines. The robot is made of several identical modules hinged by passive revolute joints. Every module is actuated with four active revolute joints and can be regarded as a parallel 1 mechanism on a mobile platform. The proposed kinematics allows to overcome the nonholonomic kinematic constraint which characterizes typical wheeled robots, resulting into an higher number of degrees of freedom and therefore augmented actuation inputs. Singularities in the kinematics of the modules are analytically identified. We present the dimensional synthesis of the length of the arms, obtained as the solution of an optimization problem with respect to a suitable dexterity index. Simulation results illustrate a kinematic control path following inside pipes. Critical scenarios such as 135 elbows and concentric restriction are explored. Path following shows the kinematic capability of deployment of the robot for autonomous operations in pipelines, with feedback implemented by on-board sensors.

متن کاملKinematics Model of Snake Robot Considering Snake Scale
Problem statement: In snake robot research, one of the most efficient forms of locomotion is the lateral undulation. However, lateral undulation, also known as serpentine locomotion, is illsuited for narrow spaces, as the body of the snake must assume a certain amount of curvature to propel forward. Approach: To overcome the inability to adapt to narrow spaces, a novel type of a gait was introd...
متن کاملSolution of Inverse Kinematic Problem of a 2DOF Robot Using Decomposition Method
The inverse kinematics problem of a two degree of freedom (2DOF) planar robot arms issolved using Adomian’s decomposition method (ADM), after converting to a system of twononlinear algebraic equations. The advantage of the method is that it gives the solutions asfunctions of the desired position of the end effecter and the length of the arms. The accuracyof the solutions can be increased up to ...

Design, modeling, manufacturing and experimental analysis of a six degree freedom robot, suitable for industrial applications, has been described in this paper. The robot was designed on the assumption that, each joint has an independent DC motor actuator, with gear reduction and measuring sensor for angular joint position. Mechanical design of the robot was done using Mechanical Desktop and ma...
متن کاملModeling Flexibility Effects in Robotic Arms Via the Modified 4x4 D-H Homogeneous Transformation
This paper presents a method for the kinematical modeling of robot manipulator arms with flexible members. Development of such techniques are important for the improvement of robotic arms precision performance and their mechanical design. The approach employs the (4X4) Denavit-Hartenberg homogeneous transformations to describe the kinematics of light weight flexible manipulator arms. The method...
